Manufacturing is a pretty broad industry, from crayons to graphene, small-scale workshops to industrial complexes, using humans, robots or a combination of the two (the latter has a NextFab residency!). Manufacturing Day – aka MFG DAY – is going to help explain just what’s going on. NextFab already has its hands in similar pots. On one hand, it is kind of what we do. But we also sponsor robotics clubs, host workshops, and bring together people who want to make things, so we’re excited to take part in Philadelphia’s MFG DAY.
Across the nation on Thursday, Oct. 4, manufacturers are opening their doors, hosting tours, and giving workshops. NextFab will be giving tours and equipment demonstrations throughout the day, and we’re really excited to host members of a local high school robotics team and Councilman Bobby Henon, a member of Philadelphia’s Manufacturing Matters Taskforce, that morning. Full event details and registration are available at MFG DAY's website. Other companies in the region are also opening their doors that day, providing opportunities to see a bolt factory, custom injection molding, and medical device manufacturing, among many others.
Finish off the day with "manufactured" happy hour specials (after you’re done machining, naturally): from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 4, mention Manufacturing Day to receive drink specials at the following bars:
